Edit #1:
The initial torrent I uploaded was corrupted, so if you are not seeing any seeders, try downloading the torrent again. The correct md5sum for the torrent should be 8838856907fbc9daa4af4a8e46c8fa26. There should be at least one seeder (me).
Edit #2:
I must apologize for the hiccup in torrent upload. Originally I was using Arctic. The seeding count was reflected in the tracker, but for some reason it was not uploading. I only had the chance to fix it when I returned from work just now. I switched over to uTorrent and the tracker is uploading now. Sorry for the wait...
Description:
This is more a "work-in-progress" update to try to bring all the components up-to-date. The major change is that Avira Rescue CD has been removed. Since there are now many free antivirus rescue CDs available (see SARDU, this is best left as a customization option. The default F-Prot and ClamAV modules in Parted Magic will suffice.
The two components which have not been updated are 1) cpustress, and 2) xfprot 2.4 / f-prot 6.0.3. I will have to work with IceCube on these in the next release, since I realize I don't have the technical know-how to do it myself.
Also, I am having some trouble uploading to the usual HTTP mirror (waiting to hear back from the mirror owner), so only torrent download is available now. Will update this post later when the HTTP mirror issue is settled.

The following SYSLINUX files are NOT from version 4.03 (but I don't know if this is in purpose):Victor wrote:Updated files from syslinux 4.0.3.
ubcd51a2.iso -> \ubcd\images\fdubcd.iso.gz -> fdubcd.iso -> isolinux.bin
ubcd51a2.iso -> \boot\isolinux\isolinux.bin
ubcd51a2.iso -> \ubcd\tools\linux\ubcd2usb\syslinux
The following SYSLINUX file is equivalent to the one in version 4.03, but it is advisable to use the one from the same 4.03 package to make it easy to update/check/select/identify in case it is necessary:
ubcd51a2.iso -> \ubcd\tools\linux\ubcd2usb\mbr.bin
Re: UBCD V5.1 alpha 2 available for download
This EaseUs DiskCopy version should be called version 2.3.1 (without the date). The actual program (in ISO format) is the same as 2.3 from Mar 2010. The explanation is in viewtopic.php?f=10&t=3431&p=11277#p11277Victor wrote:Updated EaseUs Disk Copy to V2.3 with version from MajorGeeks (Mar 2010)... The launch method has been changed to memdisk.
Please correct the "help text" accordingly.
In addition, I found:
ubcd51a2.iso -> \ubcd\images\diskcopy.iso.gz ; AND
ubcd51a2.iso -> \ubcd\images\diskcopy.iso
which is a "DUPLICATE" of the gzipped ISO that I guess shouldn't be there (and nowhere else).

Re: UBCD V5.1 alpha 2 available for download
The 7-zip files (exe and dll) should be updated. Even if these files are auxiliary files, they are an important part of the booting process.
Newer versions not only add new features (that may or may not be used by UBCD), but they also have bug fixes, which may resolve problems that we are not even know about.
The 7-zip version included in UBCD51a2 is an old beta. The current stable is 9.20, and the current beta is 9.21 (though, it should be numbered beta 11.04).
In addition, since I'm just a simple user (not a programer) I don't know if the best (more versatile and compatible) "edition" of 7-zip is the one using the dll and the exe, or the one using the alternative exe only.
Generally speaking, this request to update 7-zip files should be valid to other auxiliary files (like xz.exe and msys for example).

Re: UBCD V5.1 alpha 2 available for download
Is there any special reason to have changed Gujin and SuperGrubDisk2 from IMG.gz to ISO.gz?
Re: UBCD V5.1 alpha 2 available for download
BUGS:
The HDT Syslinux menu:
Now, using the syslinux2grub4dos script, probably this menu entry was transferred to the HDT grub4dos menu:
The HDT Syslinux menu:

Now, using the syslinux2grub4dos script, probably this menu entry was transferred to the HDT grub4dos menu:
which has the "APPEND" twice, but has also "COM32", which is not recognized by grub4dos (thanks goes to Icecube for helping to clarify this issue).title Hardware Detection Tool V0.4.1\n Displays low-level information for CPU, PCI, video, memory, BIOS, motherboard,\n disks, batteries, enclosures etc.

Re: UBCD V5.1 alpha 2 available for download
For the grub4dos, the HDT entry could be something like this:
Or a cleaner way would be to remove the hdt.gz file in the /pmagic/boot/syslinux/ directory and to add hdt.img.gz to /ubcd/images/.
For the Syslinux menu hdt.c32 can best be used, because then you can return from HDT to the UBCD menu again. with the floppy image, you have to reboot.
The Parted Magic menu would need changes for the HDT entry too in that case.
Code: Select all

Re: UBCD V5.1 alpha 2 available for download
About the "cleaner" way, IMHO it is arguable. Leaving the "/pmagic*" tree "as-is" (meaning, with NO changes to HDT, and specially NO changes to the PartedMagic boot menu) makes it much easier to update Pmagic in a future customization. This is important if you consider the frequency of updates of UBCD in comparison to updates of PartedMagic.Icecube wrote:For the grub4dos, the HDT entry could be something like this:Or a cleaner way would be to remove the hdt.gz file in the /pmagic/boot/syslinux/ directory and to add hdt.img.gz to /ubcd/images/.Code: Select all

The Parted Magic menu would need changes for the HDT entry too in that case.
So an additional option could be to simply erase the HDT entry in grub4dos, and leave the syslinux entry with hdt.c32 and pci.ids. This is an alternative to Icecube's grub4dos menu for hdt.gz, which should work too if the "/pmagic*" tree is maintained.
Yes, this would leave an additional hdt.gz in "/pmagic*" (as it is now), but it is a small size/price to pay when it makes it much easier to customize/update Pmagic later, and leaves the versatility of going back to the UBCD menu after using hdt.c32.

Yes. They can be updated.Can you confirm if those SYSLINUX files can be updated, or they are left from older versions in purpose?
For the files in "tools\win32\unxutils\bin", they are there for a very specific purpose i.e. to make IceCube's scripts in "tools\linux" work. They are not there for general usage. Hence I will only update them on a need-to basis i.e. if IceCube changes his scripts in "tools\linux" and they require a more recent version of particular tool.The 7-zip files (exe and dll) should be updated. Even if these files are auxiliary files, they are an important part of the booting process.
Makes my job easier to update them.Is there any special reason to have changed Gujin and SuperGrubDisk2 from IMG.gz to ISO.gz?
Fixed.The HDT Syslinux menu ... There are 2 "APPEND".
I am going to put our own version of HDT.img.gz in ubcd/images, which will surprisingly be 300-400K smaller because pci.ids takes a lot less space compressed in the hdt.img.gz file. The additional level of redirection (reboot to return to UBCD menu) is offset by the ability to use it under grub4dos.Or a cleaner way would be to remove the hdt.gz file in the /pmagic/boot/syslinux/ directory and to add hdt.img.gz to /ubcd/images/. I rather would see at least 7-zip updated.Victor Chew wrote:For the files in "tools\win32\unxutils\bin", they are there for a very specific purpose i.e. to make IceCube's scripts in "tools\linux" work. The pci.ids files can be compressed with gzip. Re: UBCD V5.1 alpha 2 available for download
I agree. The files 7z.exe, 7z.dll and 7za.exe (in fdubcd) included in ubcd51a2 are from a beta version that was part of the development of the current stable, version 9.20. There is a newer beta, 9.21 that even have additional bug fixes. In particular, 7za.exe is part of every boot process involving fdubcd, so updating to 9.20 (stable) or 9.21 (newer beta from 2011APR) should be advisable.Icecube wrote:I rather would see at least 7-zip updated.

The additional level of redirection (reboot to return to UBCD menu) is offset by the ability to use it under grub4dos.

NOTE2: I'm not sure which version of pci.ids is compatible with ubcd51a2. It is either 2.0 XOR 2.2. Can someone confirm which of them is suitable for ubcd?
NOTE3: Leaving hdt.c32 and the gzipped pci.ids is more versatile for updates and customizations than putting hdt.img.gz. It makes it even easier to update pmagic, which includes hdt.gz too. In addition, leaving hdt.c32 reduces the chances of wrongfully overwriting hdt.img.gz with the one from syslinux, which is, generally speaking, "older" than the one from the HDT project. Hence, IMHO the easiest and more versatile alternative is to use the pmagic's hdt.gz in the grub4dos menu, and hdt.c32/pci.ids in the syslinux menu.

Re: UBCD V5.1 alpha 2 available for download
Sure. As discussed in PM with ady, I will update ubcd\tools\win32\unxutils\7za.exe/dll to V9.21beta. However, 7za.exe in fdubcd.img is the DOS version and is currently still stuck at V4.61. gzip.exe is still V1.3.12.I agree. The files 7z.exe, 7z.dll and 7za.exe (in fdubcd) included in ubcd51a2 are from a beta version that was part of the development of the current stable, version 9.20. There is a newer beta, 9.21 that even have additional bug fixes. In particular, 7za.exe is part of every boot process involving fdubcd, so updating to 9.20 (stable) or 9.21 (newer beta from 2011APR) should be advisable.
Point taken. I will have to modify syslinux2grub4dos to handle this translation.NOTE3: Leaving hdt.c32 and the gzipped pci.ids is more versatile for updates and customizations than putting hdt.img.gz. Just to avoid future problems, it should beVictor Chew wrote:I will update ubcd\tools\win32\unxutils\7za.exe/dll to V9.21beta.
I will update ubcd\tools\win32\unxutils\7za7z.exe/dll to V9.21beta.
Again, just to reduce future problems, remember the previous NOTE1: pci.ids can be gzipped, but the filename should be reset to pci.ids, not pci.ids.gz.Victor Chew wrote:Point taken. This is not needed at all.ady wrote:Again, just to reduce future problems, remember the previous NOTE1: pci.ids can be gzipped, but the filename should be reset to pci.ids, not pci.ids.gz.

pci.ids, modules.alias and modules.pcimap can optionally be gzipped (remove the gz extension afterwards), to save space and speedup loading.
